The INVERNESS RADIO VOLUNTEERS were formed in 1986 by former members of an organisation called REACT UK. which monitored the emergency channel on the C.B. Radio and assisted motorists and truck drivers when involved in an emergency situation.
With the advent of mobile phones etc. REACT was wound up by it’s organisers. And some of the former members, reluctant to let down the other organisations with whom they had been working so successfully, decided to form their own organisation.
And the INVERNESS RADIO VOLUNTEERS was born. Since these days the group has expanded it’s range of expertise, maintaining contact with old friends in the various groups and organisations which it served, and has become a valuable ally to many organisers of events of ever increasing size and diversity.
Our area of operation is usual within a 50 mile radius of Inverness, though it has been known that they will go further for special events.
Events covered by the group are as varied as they are many, and have included such events as the Highland Cross - Nairnshire Challenge - Loch Ness Marathon - Horse Trials - Cycle Road Racing - And even a Run Rig Concert. And many other races and events too numerous to list here.
The Inverness Radio Volunteers are made up from a group of people who are willing to spend some of there spare time to assist others to run events with safety and security in mind. While most of the events are covered by cars or motorcycles, hand held communications are an essential part of the set-up.
Unfortunately, due to the fact that the group is made up from volunteers, many of whom are employed, it is difficult for the team to cover events that are not at the weekend or in the evening. With that in mind it is sometimes possible to arrange the odd evening event, Therefore it is always best to check with us first.
Thank You.
