The Inverness Radio Volunteers were formed in 1986 by former members of an Organisation called REACT UK. After React was wound up by it’s organisers
Some of the former members being reluctant to let down the other organisations with whom they had been working with so successfully, decided to form their own organisation and thus the new group The Inverness Radio Volunteers was formed. Since those days, the group has expanded it’s range of activities, maintaining contact with old friends in the various groups and organisations which it serves and becoming a valuable ally to many organisers of events of ever increasing size and diversity. The group has now obtained charitable status.
Our area of operation is usually around the 50 Mile radius of Inverness, The events covered by the group are as many as they are varied and have included such events as the Highland Cross, Nairnshire Challenge, Highland Games, The Loch Ness Marathon, Horse Trials, Cycle Road Racing, and even a RunRig concert.
There can be little doubt that The Inverness Radio Volunteers make a substantial contribution to the communities it serves. The group are largely funded by their own efforts and by donations received from the grateful organisers of the events who use our services and it is likely that their inclusion enhance the chances of permissions being granted for events where the safety of those taking part are of prime importance.
